What you will do
The valley’s traditional route for travelers who continue by train to Machu Picchu that afternoon or sleep in Ollantaytambo: you leave at 7:20 am, stop at the Taray viewpoint, spend an hour and a half at Pisac, have lunch in Urubamba and at 2:15 pm enter Ollantaytambo, where the tour ends at 3:30 pm.
It is the same bus, guide and lunch as the Classic with return to Cusco, without the last stop: it does not visit Chinchero and costs US$1 less because the ride back is not included. You finish inside the archaeological park; the station is a 15-minute walk away, with time for the afternoon trains. It is also the lowest of the four routes: no stop goes above the altitude of Cusco.
- The Taray viewpoint at 8:20 am: the first view of the Urubamba river and the valley fields
- Pisac: an hour on the terraces and at the Intihuatana, plus half an hour at the town market
- A 50-minute buffet lunch in Urubamba, included in the US$29
- Ollantaytambo from 2:15 to 3:30 pm: fortress, Temple of the Sun and the inhabited Inca town
Options and price per person
It is the cheapest departure on the site, US$29, and it costs the same booking tonight as booking weeks ahead. The one-dollar difference with the full Classic is the ride back to Cusco, which you do not take here.
No train and keen to see Chinchero? The version returning to Cusco costs US$1 more: Classic with return to Cusco.

From the fortress to the train
The Ollantaytambo visit ends at 3:30 pm inside the archaeological park. The town is small and flat: from the park gate to the station is a 15-minute walk, and on the way you pass the square and the guesthouses in case you sleep in the valley and go up to Machu Picchu the next day.
The train ticket is not included and we do not handle it; buy it directly from the rail company. Carry whatever you will need in Machu Picchu, because the bus is not taking it back to Cusco for you. If you pay today before 8 pm, we message you tonight with the exact pickup time.

Reviews
Rating of the Classic route on TripAdvisor, shared with the version that returns to Cusco; the operator, Enjoy Peru Holidays, scores 4.7 out of 5 on the same platform. We do not publish testimonials of our own.
The ones leaving Ollantaytambo from mid-afternoon on: the station is a 15-minute walk from the archaeological park. If your ticket is before 4 pm, ask us on WhatsApp before booking; with the exact time of your train we tell you whether it fits.
Until 8 pm today, Cusco time (GMT−5), online, Sundays included. At our office on Av. Tullumayo 111-B, until 7:30 pm Monday to Saturday. Confirm the space on WhatsApp before paying; the price does not change for booking late, and we do not run same-day departures.
Chinchero, which on the return route is the last visit, at 4:45 pm. Here you see the Taray viewpoint, Pisac and Ollantaytambo. If you have no train to catch and want Chinchero, the Classic with return to Cusco costs US$30 and is back at 6:30 pm.
It is the lowest of the four routes: Taray 2,972 m, the Pisac site 3,300 m, Urubamba 2,871 m and Ollantaytambo 2,790 m, all below the 3,350 m of Cusco, and Machu Picchu is lower still. Many travelers use it exactly as a bridge between landing in Cusco and the train.
Only the Tourist Ticket, which covers Pisac and Ollantaytambo. It is not included in the US$29 and is paid in soles on the day of the tour. The amount is set by the ticket administration and changes without notice; we confirm the current figure on WhatsApp when you book. This route does not visit Maras, so there is no community entrance.
You lose it: cancellations under 24 hours get no refund, and that covers every night-before booking. What you do not lose is the option to change the date, if there is room. When the cancellation is ours, because of weather or force majeure, we rebook you or refund the full amount. The 30%, 50% and 70% refunds apply to 48 hours, 72 hours and 30 days’ notice.
The easiest thing is to leave the big suitcase at your hotel in Cusco and come with a backpack: most places keep it free of charge while you are in Machu Picchu. It cannot stay on the bus, which returns to Cusco without stopping at your hotel.
Yes: you finish at 3:30 pm in the town, you book your own accommodation and the early train the next day drops you in Machu Picchu Pueblo. It is the combination we recommend to travelers who landed in Cusco today: the whole route goes downhill.
Yes: the Tourist Ticket is issued and checked against the original document. Bring the physical passport; a photo on your phone is not accepted at the checkpoint.
Ask us on WhatsApp with the ages or the student card before paying: we confirm which tour rate applies and whether a reduced Tourist Ticket applies, which has rules of its own.
We leave anyway: in the valley the rain comes in the afternoon and passes, and the sites stay open. Only if an authority closes a site or a road does force majeure apply, and then you rebook or we refund the full amount.
At our office on Av. Tullumayo 111-B yes, Monday to Saturday until 7:30 pm, in soles or dollars. Online the charge is in US dollars through WeTravel, by card. The entrance tickets are always paid in soles on the day of the tour.
